Camila Estrin Henriksen - Artist, Researcher, Educator

I am an artist, researcher, and educator with a multicultural background, based in Norway since 2009. My practice is rooted in process-driven exploration, materiality, and reflective engagement, examining the intersections of identity, sensory experience, and personal and collective narratives.

Identity exploration and formation have been a core part of my practice, bridging visual and textile arts to examine materiality, sensory engagement, and the connections between personal narratives and collective experiences. Holding a BA and an MA in Fine Arts from the University of Agder, I have developed methodologies such as "affective mark finding" and "affect mapping" to uncover hidden narratives and foster meaningful engagement with materials.

Collaboration and the transformative potential of materials are at the heart of my practice. In my BA thesis, Samtaler Mellom Blekk og Tråd, I combined calligraphy and embroidery to explore control and repair. This evolved into my MA project, Honest Skin, where recycled tea bags became vessels for addressing trauma and resilience, emphasizing the agency of materials in shaping personal and collective stories.

As an educator, I aim to create inclusive, exploratory learning environments that prioritize experimentation, sensory engagement, and reflective practice. I have led workshops in experimental drawing and mark-making and served as both an internal and external examiner for BA and MA programs at the University of Agder. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how teaching and artistic research intersect to inspire creativity and critical thinking.

In Heaven We Feed Each Other, a video installation inspired by a participatory arts-based ethnography course in Lesbos, exemplifies my exploration of how art can bridge identities, foster collaboration, and create spaces for shared reflection. This approach informs my current research focus, integrating artistic practice with critical frameworks such as critical posthumanism and neurodiversity studies.
