49 Days of Baking
Project type
Affective mark-finding on parchment paper
Date
2020–2022
“49 Days of Baking" is a tactile exploration of everyday rituals and their capacity to leave traces of lived experience. This series emerged from a process of affective mark finding, where the parchment paper—an essential material in the act of baking—becomes both witness and participant in preserving the ephemeral marks of heat, weight, and substance.
Inspired by the framework of new materialism, this work highlights the agency of materials and their ability to bear physical evidence of actions and emotions. The parchment papers are transformed into abstract compositions, with marks that resemble scars, traces, and memories. These visual records embody a truth that surpasses the verbal, emphasizing the potential of materiality to reveal narratives often concealed within the repetitive acts of daily life.
This series resists straightforward interpretation, focusing instead on the affective and performative dimensions of the creative process.
